Overview:
As the most densely populated square mile in North America, the West End is home to thousands of Vancouverites who love having neighborhood amenities within walking distance: sunny summer sands of English Bay beaches where body builders strut their stuff, the thousand acres of Stanley Park, the stores and numerous eateries of Robson, Thurlow, Alberni, Denman and Davie streets are all within the West End.
Much of the population is gay and at the West End Community Centre, ‘Gay Bingo’ featuring some of the most outrageous drag queens in Vancouver, is a hot weekly event. A mix of high-rise apartment buildings and older brownstones, the West End has retained much of its character. Roedde House and other early houses in Barclay Square are preserved for their heritage value and are fine examples of the neighborhood’s historical roots.
The West End stretches from Coal Harbor To English Bay with Stanley Park on one side and Burrard Street on the other. It’s one of Vancouver’s most tolerant and safe neighborhoods.
