Shopping is sophisticated and imaginative with plenty of
opportunity to hit the malls and large department stores for
top flight fashion or to discover neighborhood haunts and
ethnic specialties that reflect the diverse make up of
Vancouver’s population.
Fashionites will want to head for Robson Street, Vancouver’s
answer to Rodeo Drive where designer labels rule. Stores such
as The Gap and Roots rub shoulders with one-of-a-kind
specialty stores selling books, collectibles, shoes, art and
souvenirs while Virgin Megastore, Planet Hollywood and Roots
dominate the Burrard Street intersection. In trendy Kitsilano,
you’ll find lots of specialty shops and galleries; there’s
a conclave of antique shops along Main Street on Vancouver’s
East Side; funky, almost sixties-oriented outlets on
Commercial Drive and aboriginal and folk art in Gastown and
shops sprinkled throughout the city.
There’s also a plethora of talented Vancouver designers
who call this city home. Their products range from
cosmopolitan housewares and accessories to fashions with star
studded appeal for Royalty and Hollywood celebrities alike. It’s
as if creativity is endemic to this part of the world. Perhaps
it’s something in the water!
