A YEAR IN THE GARDEN
VanDusen's Calendar of Bloom

VanDusen Botanical Garden is a "bloomin' beautiful place" all year round. The Plants to See display on the Entrance Deck exhibits specimens of interesting plants currently in bloom in the Garden. Following is a calendar of some of the most popular displays each month.

January:
Witch Hazel, Silk Tassel Bush, Himalayan Box, Winter-Flowering Jasmine

February:
Early Rhododendrons, Helleborus, Winter Aconite (Eranthus hyemalis), Crocus, ComeKan Cherry

March:
Early-flowering bulbs, Spring Heath, Rhododendrons

April:
Magnolias, Rhododendrons, Japanese Cherries, Pacific Dogwood, Camellias, Spring-flowering bulbs

May:
Rhododendron Walk is in full bloom, Trilliums and in mid to late May Laburnum Walk

June:
Early June - Laburnum Walk, Primulas, Hydrangeas, Alma VanDusen Meadow Garden, Japanese Dogwoods, Roses

July:
Waterlilies, Southern Hemisphere bulbs, Fuchsias, Roses, Hypericums, Evergreen Magnolia, Spanish Broom, Yucca and Lilies (midiseason)

August:
Hanging baskets, Hibiscus, Lilies (late season), Silk Tree, Butterfly Bush (Buddleia), Roses, Escallonia and Annuals

September:
Heathers, Angelica Tree, Autunm Crocus, Asters, Michaelmas Daisies, Fall- blooming herbaceous perennials including Ornamental Grasses

October:
Autumn Colour at its best -- Eastern North American and Gingko trees, Autumn Crocus, Fatsia

November:
Fall berries, broad-leaf evergreen shrubs

December:
Holly Collection, Higan Cherry, Winter-flowering Viburnum, and berries of Aucuba, Callicarpa (Beauty Bush) and Skimmia
