Overview
Virtual
Tour
It’s
hard to imagine such serenity could exist amidst
Vancouver’s bustling Chinatown, but these gardens are
a walled treasure of tranquility. Named for the founder of the first Chinese
republic who visited Vancouver many times, Dr. San Yat
Sen Gardens is the first (and to date, only) garden of
its kind to be created outside of China. Fifty-two
master craftsmen came over from China to create this
Ming Dynasty styled landscape and, using precious rocks,
plants and other natural materials, created a
masterpiece that’s a unique expression of Chinese
culture. And, true to their craft, not a nail was used
in any of the pavilions. Guides lead you through covered
walkways to explain the significance of the garden’s
elements and it’s a wonderful spot for a
‘time-out’. The Gift Shop is its own experience and
you’ll likely come away with carved stone ornaments,
tapestries and other mystical items.
