Overview:
Probably
the ritziest Centre in Vancouver, four superbly
renovated heritage buildings showcase some of the city’s
finest haute couture. Bring your cameras and stop a
while in the elegant food court - some visitors may
recognize its interior from the movie Bird on the Wire
with Goldie Hawn. The clock is the Centre’s most
imposing feature. It’s been there since 1909, as part
of the original main post office. The minute hand alone
weighs 92 km/202 lbs. and before the clock’s works
were replaced by a tiny electronic mechanism, it used to
take three days for the controlling weights to
completely travel the towers 21 metre/69 feet shaft.
Name droppers should head for Escada and Leone for
designer labels. If you’re looking for something
particularly West Coast, Haida designer Dorothy Grant
translates her Native culture into contemporary fashions
with exquisite appliques.
